I Call It A Journey, Hubs Calls It A Comeback

I have gotten a few emails inquiring about my natural hair journey and what's going on with it. I really shouldn't have left my friends hanging but honestly ....

I have had my days. Days where I am a little frustrated about all the things I do not know. I was so frustrated one day that I told hubs that I was going to put that creamy crack in my hair and call it a day. Of course I was exaggerating but I don’t think hubs thought so because he asked me not to. He told me how much he likes it and to think of how awesome my hair will be once I figure it out.

It has only been 6 months so of course I still have a lot to learn. I was thrilled to hear that from him, because in the back of your mind you wonder if he likes it or if thinks that I kinda look a little crazy sometimes. I have to admit that sometimes I do look a little crazy. But I will never return to the creamy crack because I know he likes it and that makes me want to tolerate the journey just a little more.

Every week I am trimming a little bit of relaxed hair because I can’t do the full out chop. I am a little too vain to have no hair on my head. My natural hair is growing so even though I am trimming every week, it is pretty much staying the same length. I can't wait until I have no more relaxed ends though ... it's a bit annoying.

And since we are on the top of length! Let’s talk about shrinkage! Shrinkage is no joke … my goodness! That is all I will say about shrinkage!

Here are some pictures to kind of document my natural hair journey.

  9. have you joined any of the Natural Hair blogs yet? That is where I got the strength many days to continue. I big chopped almost a year ago July 5,2010. my then boyfriend now fiancé disliked (the nicest way to put it) my hair. Now almost a year later he LOVES it! It is truly a journey but one that is well worth it. I love your hair, keep up the good work with it

  17. sorry my previous comment was full of typos...
Anyhoo, you know what? I have been thinking about going natural too!!
Confession: the other day I was watching youtube vids of natural girls and the hair just looks amazing and healthy. I am now 3 months post relaxer and I am getting ready to braid my hair. We'll see if I have the strength to reject the creamy crack when I take out the braids...
Your hair is beautiful!! maybe we can encourage each other :)

  25. You're beautiful!

I went natural in 2007, and I haven't looked back. I love being natural, and although I have my days with unruly hair, I still love it. The best advice is to keep it moisturized, and also I started taking MSM powder. OMG, that MSM powder made my hair a lot stronger and healthier. I tell anyone, look into it.

    Have a good one :)

  26. Thought your blog was pretty awesome. But saw this posting and had to comment. I transitioned for 9 months and fought with my hair many days. It will become easier. I have some posting about my hair on my blog. studentonthego.blogspot.com.

  27. it really suits you--hang in there!! : ) and on days when you just don't want to bother (when you're tempted by creamy crack) try a half wig! inexpensive easy healthy temporary way to change your look.

  28. I'm late, but I love your transition. Go for as long as you can. My transition styles were the bantu knot, bc it really curled the relaxed ends perfectly and the twist n curl. You can do it! I wish I would have transitioned longer.

    New follower BTW!!

  30. Girl you are doing better than me. I hit 9 months this month and other than maybe twice trying hair styles (bantu knot once and rod set the other), I have been wearing that sucker in a bun!
