Checking In

IMG_7036-2 It has been a while and it wasn't planned. I'll admit that I do feel bad about not updating regularly but mostly for myself. This blog has been such a great way to document my (our) life since 2010. Granted 2020 hasn't been my favorite year but some good things have occured and if anything it would have been therapeutic to write about all the feelings; the good and bad. I might end up blogging several things that way it is here for memory sake. I can't say for sure that I'm going to get better. I want to get better but lately have not had that drive to blog. I may have to find a new outlet but not sure what yet. Until then, I figured I stop here and let you know (if you even care because who reads blogs these days?) that I'm well and I hope that you are well too.

Here are some pictures of flowers I took over one month ago. Today (all last week in fact) has been incredibly rainy, grey and chilly so these pictures perk me up a bit. I hope to write again soon ♥.

P.S. If the desire to blog never comes back it may also be due to this new blogger layout. I kinda hate it and have no desire to learn a new format. Blogger, 2020 was not the year.

Scenes from Thanksgiving 2019

IMG_4507

Good Morning y'all! Not surprising that I am late in recapping Thanksgiving but my position remains better late than never. This year was a special Thanksgiving because Sean did not have to work (woohoo!), we hosted Thanksgiving in our home and our precious new niece was present. It wasn't difficult to list all the things we are most thankful for.

The day was certainly a lot of fun. We decided to do things a little differently this year and have Thanksgiving dinner at 2pm. That didn't happen (not surprising), more like 3pm-ish but it was the earliest we've ever eaten and we've decided we always want to do it this way. If we say dinner is at 2pm at least we won't be eating at 6pm, ha.

Alexa was in high demand that day and Sean and I gave her a little vacation after our family left ;). But there was a whole lot of dancing and singing so I'm sure Alexa appreciated how popular she was that day.

My dad brought back a bracelet from Ghana for my niece.
It is what she is showing off in these pictures, haha.

She is truly the sweetest girl, I love her so.

This apple cider sangria was a hit and now I'll always make sure that it is present at Thanksgiving dinner.

It was really an incredible day. One of the best days I've had in a while. Funny thing was that it wasn't exactly anything extraordinary. Just that the overall feel of the day was just so good. I won't ever be able to properly put it in words but I ended that day feeling an immense amount of gratefulness and know that I'll never take the people I love most in this world for granted.

A me day

IMG_4100

When we first moved to Pennsylvania I was unemployed and had no friends or family in the area. Sean was working so I was left to my devices which included a lot of walks with Izabella (we did not have Walker at that time). I remember that I use to do a lot of exploring by myself. I’d drive downtown to see whatever was going on and my camera was my trusty friend. It helped me feel less alone and that I had a reason to be somewhere. Almost a security blanket.

Fast forward to when Sean told me that he’d be at a real estate conference on this particular weekend; I recall wracking my brain trying to figure out what I’d do. I decided that I’d make it a day just for me to do the things I enjoy.

I started with making myself a breakfast sandwich, had coffee in a new festive mug (new mugs always make me happy!) and then went to the gym. When I got home I got ready to head to the farmers market to pick up some produce and some flowers. Of course I brought my camera along. After the farmers market (where I found my most favorite flower the gomphrena) I stopped at one of my favorite restaurants, 3rd and Ferry, to get lunch and then walked around before heading back home.

When I got home, I let the dogs out and contemplated whether I should take them for a walk but decided against it because it’s not easy to walk two big dogs on my own. Instead I gave them their favorite treats and told them that they’ll get a walk the following day when Sean got home. I then arranged the flowers I got at the farmer's market in a vase and proceeded to stare in awe about how beautiful they were. Yes, I'm not embarrassed to admit that I'm now obsessed and I just loved, loved seeing them on our dining table. The farmer was right and they did dry beautifully. I actually removed them the day before Thanksgiving which means they lasted from Oct 19th until Nov 27th. This won't be the last time these flowers make their way into our home.

That day I wondered if I should get a head start on meal prepping that way I could be free all of Sunday but decided against it. Instead, I watched a couple of my favorite movies and then started a new show on Netflix, "Living with Yourself". It was interesting and I'm curious to see how they are going to make this show work. I admit that I did feel a little guilt that I still hadn’t completed the book on my nightstand but decided that I’d get to it when I get to it.

The day was nothing grand. It was for the most part a rather simple day but I got to do it for me and it felt really good. I made a mental note to do more days just like this, as I'm learning that I am and should be, my favorite company.
