Wedding Dress, Forgive Me. I Don't Deserve You.

I spent many hours thinking about you.

I spent many hours thinking about what accessories would match with you.

I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would look in you, on my wedding day.

I spent a great deal of time at the gym AND I ate a ton of crappy healthy food to ensure I would look good in you.

I spent a lot of time thinking about how the stupid, good for nothing seamstress butchered you & what I would do to make her pay. I still haven't figured that out.

I spent a lot of time in you on my actual wedding day, and I got a lot of compliments because of you.

But after the wedding day, I stuffed you in a bag and put you away.

You still have the beauty underneath you but it is hidden underneath dirt, wine spills and makeup stains {not only mine}.

Every once in a while I go into the closet and stare at you and smile, but it is not very often and it happens very quickly. {I have this fear that hubs will catch me & send me to the crazy bin}

I want to clean you, make you bright and new but I just don't want to spend anymore money on anything wedding related. I hope you understand that a new handbag is just so much more exciting now.

But one day, if I come across a large sum of money, I promise to think to send that money your way.

Remembering you today in all your glory.

I WILL make you, you again. I promise.

  1. are you thinking of preserving it or just having it cleaned? my dry cleaners (that I've so far just trusted with work pants) said they'll clean my dress for $200. but is that TOO cheap to trust them with my baby? ugh. so far, mine is still bespeckled with wine in the closet, too.

  2. Poor seamstress! I hope you don't ever catch her in a dark alley somewhere! Your dress was (is?) amazing! Mine is spread across one of our guest beds and looks kinda creepy. It always freaks out our visitors. *evil grin*

  3. Hi Kelly! I want to have it preserved but at the rate I'm going, I should just get it cleaned. I've also been told that if I preserve it, it has to stay in the box until I want to take it out. Once I do that I would have to get it preserved again. To be honest, I think $200.00 is actually a bit much to just get it cleaned. It must depend upon your area.

  4. hahaha, Tiffany! I am so happy to know that I am not the only one who has her dress not looking her best, haha.

trust me, she doesn't look good anymore! :( yes, i don't want to see my seamstress again. i will hurt her, haha.

  5. You look stunning in that dress! I got mine preserved but it's sad because I can't look at it. There is a little window in the box but it's not the same. Why do we only get to wear it once?

  6. Mine is still in the closet too with all the stains from the big day - poor thing! I agree with Sarah - wish we didn't have to wear it once :-(

  7. Aww you look so beautiful in your dress. Your so cute, I love that you sneak peaks of it from time to time. I understand not wanting to spend another dime, I'm currently wedding planning. It's kind of cool it's still in it's original state from the day of your wedding. Makes it all the more nostalgic.

  8. you're not the only one. mine is still hanging close to our bed (because my closet is full), uncleaned. maybe next year :)

  9. I got mine cleaned and preserved, so now it just sits in a box in our guest room closet. I look at it from time to time, but if I didn't get it preserved right after my wedding, I never would have. I don't know why it was so important for me to preserve it. I don't want to cut it up into a baptism outfit for my kids, nor do I expect my daughter (if I have one) to wear it for her wedding and I can't really fit in it anymore and have no reason to wear it again. I just got too attached to it I think...

  10. Mine's still in the guest room closet, no preserving for me. Maybe one day, but it seems sad to not be able to try it on.. not that i'm doing that regularly!! haha

    XOXO

  11. I sent mind to a (well researched and reputable) cleaners. For $100 they nearly ruined it- it came home with a huge tear in the skirt. The real kicker was, it wasn't even that clean. Since I'm planning on selling it one of these days- I had to take it to a tailor where she had to replace the entire panel with the tear in it. Only another $350. Egads.

I think your dress might be safer in your closet.

  12. How sweet to write a letter to your wedding dress ;).

You looked fab, 100% Queen in that dress. You are so beautiful!

I really love my wedding dress too. I drew the designed and it was the only thing that I took 100% charge of whilst planning my wedding.

As soon as the wedding day was over I sent it to the dry cleaner. It came out refreshed but the grass stain was still at the end of the hem.

Now the dress in a clear dress bag under a pile of other clothes. I hope one day my daughter will wear it for her own wedding – or if I can’t wait that long, I might turn it into a short dress for my children christening – crazy eheh!

In June, whilst packing our stuff for our future move, I tried on my dress. It still fit but not as loose as it was on my wedding day. On 30th July 2005 I had to wear two bras to have my bust look fuller, LOL (I really hope I will write all about my wedding in the near future). Now my bust is so full that I had to wear one tight bra to fit into the dress, LOL! Hilarious.

Ohhh, I want to post pictures of my wedding dress on my blog. I have to put together posts about my wedding (I promise I will write about my wedding one of these days)...

Okay, I can’t resist I am posting a pic of when I tried it on in June... :).

  15. My husband thought I was crazy the other day because he came home and caught me trying it on... LMAO! It's been a few years and I just wanted to see it out of the bag and on me just once more... I totally understand the not wanting to do anything wedding related, I almost didn't even want to go to a wedding after planning ours... LOL, keyword there almost. ;-)

  18. Aww, you look gorgeous - and your dress is beautiful.

Took me over a year to getting around to getting mine cleaned. And it was A LOT of money for it to just go in a box - which is now gathering dust under my bed - but I did do it eventually.. :S

Love the letter to the dress. Found you through Ms.BabyPlan. :)

  24. You looked beautiful! I finally had mine cleaned after 4 years of marriage and I am so glad I did. I didnt get it preserved, but Im glad it is ready to show its face whenever I decide to pull her out of her bag.

Our wedding was a 3 day affair in two cities so after 3 days of wearing her, she got pretty dirty.

I need to have mine cleaned, too - but hun, you're not as bad as me, i promise... I got married in 2006, mine is still hanging in it's bag inside a closet at my mom's house in "middle of nowhere, West Virginia"! You would think, after 5 years, i would get to it...
