My Child Won't Have To Go To Daycare!

That is the second thought that crossed my mind when hubby told me his new work schedule.

My first thought was, "WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Sean advised me that his new schedule is Saturday - Monday. Three days on and four days off.

I was not thrilled at all because I am off on the weekends. I don't really want days off separate from each other, the weekends just aren't as fun.

After thinking about it {and putting on my big girl pants} I realized this didn't have to be a bad thing.

Funny that, that was the second thing that came to mind especially since we are not trying for babies anytime soon BUT now I know that if we did decide to have babies we would only have to think of having someone take care of our baby(ies) ONE day a week and that person would most likely be my MIL since she has already volunteered. Run on sentence much? Give me credit, I put a comma somewhere in there.

I know this is just her way to try to convince us that it wouldn't be all that difficult and we would have plenty of help. Unfortunately for her, I will remind her of her offer any chance I get, haha.

I have yet to convince hubby of my brilliant idea but I know when he sees just how costly daycare is he wouldn't mind being Daddy Daycare.

  1. If he works opposite hours of you, definitely don't do daycare! From what I hear (we aren't doing it, I'm staying home) it's SUPER expensive. Also, kids get sick more because of all the germs they're exposed to :P

  2. At first I would think that his new work schedule is a dilemma because you'll miss out on spending time with him. But when kids are in the picture, I think your alternating work schedules would be a blessing!

  4. Yippie! That's great news. Unfortunately our kiddos will have to go to daycare unless we hire a nanny. Boooo...LOL

  5. Faith,

That is a great way to look at a not so preferred situation. I like that four days off thing.

  6. You are just darling Faith. I love how you went from immediate 'glass is empty' to 'glass is half full'. :)

I strongly suggest you continue to do a 'date night'. It will be extra important now that you have opposite schedules. It's more than do-able though. My parents did it for a long time when were we kids.

  7. awww that is so great! If the baby could be home with a parent or family member. Your MIL rocks!

  8. You HAVE to have Daddy Daycare -- sending your child to daycare when Sean is home the days you are working would just be silly lol

  9. I know how you feel. My hubby use to work that schedule as well. Since my hubby works mid day to evening, he has aleady stated that our future child would not go to day due to his shift. I kinda like the idea of it but I am sure that we will have to do some tweeks since our work schedules overlap. I know at least I have family and a woman at my church would I know I could depend on if child care is needed.

  10. I'm on opposite schedules with my husband now and it BLOWS! But it's not even such that he'd be able to watch our little one (whenever she/he comes) because he's in school all day, works all night. BOOOOO.

That's great that you'll have hubby home to watch baby! You'll save SO much money!

And LOL he better not "mind being daddy daycare!" He's the father, that's his job!!

I hope you guys change your mind and start trying for babies like....tomorrow. :)

  12. Daddy daycare would be awesome Faith! I'm determined to not have to send my babies to daycare when I have them so whether it's me or the hubs, someone's staying home! lol

  13. You'll have to let us know how it goes, there are definitely pluses and minuses but if you both have nights together that will be nice at least!

    XOXO

  14. I'd be bummed if hubby didn't have weekends off. so much revolves around weekend activities. But yeah, the bright side is your future children having someone home. Pros and cons always!

  16. Love the idea of Daddy Daycare! I can only imagine how it feels to have to put kids in daycare. I have a couple friends that have to and it tears them up and I also have a couple friends that are stay at home moms. I'm not sure which would I'd rather be...

  17. Nothing beats one parent being there to take care of baby...nothing. Yaaay for Daddy Daycare. I'm hoping when I'm a nurse I'll have the flexibility in my schedule to be the one home with the kids.

  18. I totally understand being sad and happy at the same time about the weekends. One cool thing about it is that a lot of places aren't as crowded during the week versus the weekend =)

  20. Big Man worked that same schedule before at his job and it didn't really work for us, especially to do stuff on the weekends.

But then again his new schedule is a new adjustment as well.

  21. Isn't THAT the truth? Daycare is serious business! I am counting the days when our 5 year old starts all-day kindergarden in the Fall! It will leave our 2-1/2 yo still in daycare but SERIOUSLY, at least we won't be paying another "mortgage" in daycare expenses! :) You're very lucky if you can swing that!
