Hard.

With Thanksgiving just a few days away it’s hard for me not to get emotional. Every year, a few days before Thanksgiving, I would call my mom to tell her how excited I was to see her in a few days. It’s so hard to know that I will not be making that phone call this year. I get moments of extreme sadness when it dawns on me again that she isn’t here. It’s hard.

If you’ve followed my blog for a while you’ll know that Thanksgiving is a pretty big deal in my family. We always make sure to be together, cook together, enjoy the entire day together. I can’t believe that one of the parts that make that day complete won’t be sitting around the table to tell us how thankful she is for her family.

A few years back, my mom gave me her turkey recipe and I’ve been making it ever since. I’m so thankful I was able to get her recipe before she left. I know it’s going to be a bittersweet day and I’m feeling a little anxious that I’ll be overly emotional especially since Sean has to work that day.

But I know that my mom would be happy to see that the tradition will still go strong in our family. I know that I don’t really need to tell anyone this; but hug your families so tight and remind them every day how much you love them. Because if someone told me last year that my mom would not be sitting at the dining table this year, I would not have believed them.

  2. Thinking and praying for you! My Grandmother passed away this weekend and it will be out first Thanksgiving in 30+ years that we won't be at her home. The holidays are always hard... especially when you lose someone so close to you.

Sending you some virtual hugs! xo

  3. I'm not looking forward to it at all. The funny thing is last thanksgiving my grandmother made a speech basically saying how happy she was to have seen another thanksgiving and that it's important to enjoy the time together because that year could be her last. And she was right. I'm so happy I recorded her on my phone. I watched it a few times and everything she said was true and I'll definitely be appreciating all my family this year because you really never know when your last day will be. I'll be thinking of you guys. Love you Hun!

  7. Sending you a warm hug, Faith. What gets me through the holidays is cooking some of my mother and father's recipes. Although they have passed. I feel their presence every day.
