If You Hate Grocery Shopping, Pick Another Day

We use to go grocery shopping on Sundays. It was not fun.

Sean was convinced I was taking too long in the aisle checking out everything. You know picking the second to third item instead of the item on display.

We use to get into it in the grocery store and it was a dreadful experience. We hated grocery shopping. Well, I loved grocery shopping but going was Sean was making me dislike it.

There were many times when we would get home and would realize that we had not purchase something that we really needed. People who enjoy grocery shopping would just go back and get it but not us. We would just get it the next dreaded time we went grocery shopping, even if it meant waiting two additional weeks to get the much needed item.

One weekend we weren't going to be in the area on Sunday so we went grocery shopping that Friday instead. Let me tell you what a different experience it was! Like night and day.

Sean was having a good ole time. Picking this and picking that. And for the first time we got everything on our grocery list.

We figured out that grocery shopping on Sundays was dreadful because it was the end of the weekend and no one wants to waste the end of their weekend at the supermarket. But on Fridays, it was the beginning of the weekend so you were in a ecstatic state of mind.

Grocery shopping on Fridays = less heated arguments discussions.

We love grocery shopping but only because we do it on Fridays now.

  2. My husband and I have totally different grocery shopping styles too! He takes so long to pick out every single thing! Ah!!!

  3. Yes! Yes! YES! And I have an even BETTER hint for you: go grocery shopping after going out for a Mexican dinner (with a few Margaritas of course)- you'll think you're at Disney :)

Is it bad that this has been Adam's and my "date night" for the last four years?: Mexican & grocery shopping on Friday nights. Oooh-eee-baby, we are livin' large!!

  4. Excellent post! I go early mornings on Saturday when the hubs and babies are still asleep. That way when I come home, hubs helps me put the groceries up, fix breakfast & back to sleep I go. Win, win for us because he does not like grocery shopping with me. :-)

  5. Great observation! I don't mind going grocery shopping with my husband, except he's all about saving money (which is great,,, but I won't budge on buying certain brands...) and i'm all about quality. So, we tend to have disagreements when it comes to which brand to buy. I've learned from him and he's learned from me, but overall I kinda sorta enjoy grocery shopping on my own because it's a lot less stressful.

  6. Hahahaha! So glad you figured this out! My husband and I don't even go shopping together anymore. It's just not something we enjoy doing together. He makes me feel rushed and cranky and I make him nervous because I like to look at everything which makes him think I'm going to buy everything! Hahaha!

  7. Sunday is a horrible day to grocery shop at least for me. I go early in the morning during a weekday. It is nice because the store is usually empty and I can take my time. I generally go to the same store so I know where everything is.
I like to grocery shop alone, my husband never knows where anything is and it is like he is in another country when he is shopping for groceries. lol

  8. I do hate grocery shopping! We usually go on Saturday. Sunday...no way!! We are lucky that our hubbies go with us. My poor sis's hubby will NOT go with her. Well, he did once but it was b/c she had surgery.

  9. We don't go weekly on a schedule, I just pick a random weeknight and go, it's less crowded and less people to make john go crazy.

  10. Joseph wants to shop during the week, but I prefer to shop on Sundays. I guess it's embedded in me because growing up, we would always go to the store after church.

  12. I agree.
Sundays are a drag since you have to go to work the next and that's the last place you want to be esp. with hundrends of other grumpy irritated people.

  13. Perhaps we should try a shopping day switch-up, too. We just did ours yesterday (Sunday). It was quite mopey. And it was raining, too. :( Blah!

  14. I hate shopping with my husband- not because we fight- but he's like superman in the store. He knows what he wants- gets it and is out in 10 minutes. I, on the other hand, like to go aisle by aisle, look at the circular and take my time. Maybe pick up a few things that weren't on my list and enjoy my shopping trip. Glad you guys have made grocery shopping into a "date night" of sorts ;P

  15. When you choose to go grocery shopping makes a huge difference! One of the perks of working from home is that I can run to the store during my lunch break. The stores are so peaceful during the week days!

  16. Lol... I NEVER go grocery shopping with Matthew!! He would completely ruin the experience for me because he hates it so much and rushes me and grumbles the whole time! Lol!

Friday evenings are MUCH less crowded than Sundays, too. Good call!! :)
