Two weekends ago, Sean and I went to visit a college girlfriend of mine who currently lives in DC. She was the first person I met in college and we rushed the same sorority together. She is actually the reason I met Sean. Pretty big deal to us so of course she was also a bridesmaid at our wedding. We had so much fun laughing, catching up and sharing stories from when we went to college together. Some of the stories Sean had not even heard yet. Of course, we only shared a limited amount with him ;).
I'm the girl she had to explain to what Walmart was. Nawal is from Morocco and they don't have Walmarts there so she thought it was the greatest store when she moved to upstate NY for college. When she told me that Walmart was the greatest store I immediately thought it was a store that sold walls so I asked, "Why would walls be great for a college student?" She looked at me like I was an idiot. I'm not sure why she acted as though she even knew what Walmart was prior to college but I digress...
Any who, I had a good excuse. I'm from the Bronx and had never heard about or seen a Walmart. That same day she took me to the one in our college town and I agreed that it was the greatest because I purchased a container of Pringles for .88 cents!! I could not believe all the things they sold in ONE store. Now, if I never have to step food in a Walmart, I'll be OK.
Another story that had us laughing so hard was the fact that when I was a freshman in college I did not wear makeup. One day she and another girlfriend of ours decided to give me a makeover.
It's crazy that although we have not seen each other in several years (last time was when we were bridesmaids at our girlfriend's Jihae's wedding in 2011) we just started right where we left off. Phone calls, texting, Facebook and Instagram have helped to keep us connected which I'm extremely grateful for.
I really wanted to visit the National Museum of African American History & Culture but we could not snag tickets! It is in high demand (rightfully so!) right now so I have an excuse to go to DC again next year. I'll just make sure to pre-order the tickets next time! Lesson learned.
The Cherry Blossom Festival was another thing I was hoping to catch but with the cold front DC experienced and crazy snowstorm, the blossoms did not bloom the way they usually do around this time of year, in fact many did not make it. It was still a pretty sight.
One place (can't remember the others) worth mentioning that we visited that weekend was Dirty Habit. We went there for drinks and I loved the atmosphere. They come up with such different takes on classic cocktails. This is definitely a spot that I'll like to come back to when it is warmer because I absolutely loved their patio area!
I did not take nearly as many pictures as I wanted which I kind of regret now but here are ones that I did manage to get.
Just in case you're wondering, I forgive her for not knowing how to use my camera ;).
I can't wait to see her again. And not in six years! ♥
