Once Upon A Time

I am loving Beyonce's new song, "Best Thing I Never Had".

It reminds me of a dumb time before Sean. A time when I thought certain people were a lot better than they actually were. A time when I thought I knew what a broken heart was or what love was.

This time involved a guy that I went to college with. I thought he was the one, he was the man I was going to marry. He turned out to be a guy I definitely didn't need in my life.

Another time involved a guy I met after college. Although, he showed that he was not the commitment type, I was sure that I was going to change him. He was going to realize that I was perfect for him and we were going to live happily ever after.

As Beyonce says in her song:

"Thank God you blew it
Thank God I dodged the bullet
I'm so over you
So baby good lookin' out"

When I met Sean, I was a bit jaded so he didn't have the easiest time getting to know me. To be honest, I am surprised that he stuck around. If I were him, I would have jumped ship and said adios as quickly as possible.

Everything was just so easy and before Sean, I never knew it could be that easy. I was having the perfect relationship. When I realized he wasn't going anywhere because he sincerely liked me, my jadedness began to disappear.

How thrilled am I that my heart was "broken". How ecstatic am I that my definition of love was all wrong.

  1. I LOVE that song! I turn it up really loud when my kids aren't with me! Right now Kenlee's favorite song is Tina Turner's "The Best" and "Single Ladies" - I made an Itunes cd & she knows which # those 2 are.
So glad you got the man you were SUPPOSED to be with!!!

  2. Oh my word. I was in the exact situation with Josh!

I was dating another guy when Josh and I met. The guy I was with didn't want to date long-distance through college. DEAL-BREAKER FOR ME.

Then Josh and I started "liking" each other, but I ignored all my feelings for him and dated another guy during my first year of college that I thought I could change as well. Didn't work.

Then...the lightbulb. We are such lucky ladies to have such dedicated, loving hubbies! =)

  5. I'm sooo with you. Even though I don't like that CD very much that particular song clicked with me right away! At the time I was dealing with an ex who really could care less about me when we "dated" but I was on him like white on rice, I just KNEW were going to get married. And now he's all over my business. (I think I blogged about it). I always think of him when I listen to this song. It's bad of me, but it's soo good. lol.

  6. How did you finally shake the guy that you thought you could change?! Was it because you met Sean or were you just sick of trying? Aww I loved this post! Gotta love a happy ending :)

  11. 'Twas meant to be! 'Aint it great to have "the one" and be out of the dating gene pool? My relationship is super easy too and sometimes it makes me nervous-like is this too good to be true? But it's real.

  16. I love this post Faith, and I think I must go listen to the song properly. Your post is giving me hope that someday [hopefully sooner rather than later] I'll be thinking the exact same way when Mr. Right finally gets around to finding me. Cos right now I'm tired of looking for him!

  23. It always amazes me how, as the saying goes, some things fall apart so other things can come together. So happy you found the right one, Faith. You two seem to be a perfectly lovely couple. :)
