Best Things In {My} Life #2

Sisters.

Growing up, we lived in a smart apartment in the city. And when I say the city, I mean NYC. No one who actually lives in the city calls it NYC or New York City. We just refer to it as The City.

Let’s just say that 4 girls in a one bathroom apartment could get quite crazy.

There was a lot of banging on the bathroom door and stealing of clothes.

You would have the best idea of what to wear the next day to school, only to not find it that morning. And when your older sister got home that day you would see that it was because she wore it. Fun, fun.

And lots of times there was name calling. No curse words because we would have no tongue. But big head, big butt, dummy, idiot, brat, jerk, nerd, stink butt and basically anything you could come up with. We also made up insults which is cool when I think of it right now. One of them was "Nunu". We have no idea how it came about but it was an insult and trust me, we knew what it meant.

It was nice that there were 4 of us because one person didn’t get ganged on often. It was always 2 against 2 unless we wanted to piss my older sister off since she was so bossy. She always had to be the teacher or the choir director. Don't get me started when she wanted one of us to sing soprano when that person was actually an alto.

Regardless of the fist fights, name calling and clothes stealing we loved each other. If anyone messed with us it was on. We had each other’s back.

Now as an adult, I feel so lucky to have my sisters. To have friendships with the women who have the same blood running through their veins. To have memories that no one would ever have but us. To have a history. To have jokes that no one else finds funny but us. To laugh so hard together that our bellies hurt. To cry with each other when one of us is hurting. To know that in this entire world no one else holds the bond that we have with each other.

Emma, Priscilla and Maryanna, you certainly make my list of the best things in life.

  5. Love! I have a sister and we fought like cats and dogs as teenagers - there were even years where we refused to speak to each other (she was being a cow :P). But I agree, there's nothing like the sisterly bond.

  7. So sweet! I always wanted sisters. I only have 1 brother and he's 9 years older than me, so it was almost like I was an only child. You're very blessed to have such great sisters Faith! :)

  13. You're making me miss my sisters. I also have 3-sisters so there's 4 of us and yes, I am the older sister so I was somewhat bossy but I think I have mellowed out with the years :-).
It was fun growing up and reading your post made me smile. We did come up with our own insults too. Made no sense to others but it completely made sense to us. :-)

  16. I love my sisters too! I always wondered what it might be like to have a brother but I wouldn't change a thing. Sister's are the best. It's sad to think of some siblings that don't get along or don't like each other.

  17. I love this!! And I have to say I"m totally jealous of you having all those sisters and such an amazing bond!! Siblings are the best :) I have a younger brother who I'm close with but it's not the same. lol.. Our baby sister is 12 years younger than me so we didn't "grow up" together but as she gets older I'm hoping we get closer!
