Do You Want More?

I was reading this post on Coast With Me a few weeks ago and it got me thinking.

She shared my favorite commercial of all time (I just love that little girl) so of course I had to read it.

I’ve been blogging for almost 4 years and I’ve been content with my blog’s growth. Granted, I’ve been blogging for a while now so surely, I should have more followers by now.

It amazes me how some individuals have a strong voice. A voice that many (strangers!) want to hear. We want to follow their lives, view their pictures, like their pictures on Instagrams because every image is better than the last. They have built their little space on the Internet. They have worked hard to make relationships and network so with time their blogs just grow and there is no stopping them.

And then you see a new blogger become an overnight blogging sensation. And you wonder, Wow? How in the world did they do that?

And then you begin to doubt what you’re doing. You have to be a blogging sensation too. I mean, really, it can’t be that hard.

But with that comes work (hard work) and I don’t know about y’all but I already have a full time job. And a husband, and a dog, and a cat, and a house that needs to be cleaned, and dishes that need to be washed, and clothes that need to be folded and put a way. Oh and let’s not forget all the shows I have yet to watch on Netflix.

So in order to be anything in life, be it a doctor, an actress, a blogging sensation, you have to work at it. My space on the Internet can only be as good as I make it. I’m not into doing giveaways (tried it, and not really for me) I’m not into the whole sponsoring thing (if I like you, I’ll most likely mention you in a post here and there) I don’t get sponsored (no reason why but I do my own thing, ha) ... and I have noticed that many bloggers who have become blogging sensations have done really well in doing those things.

I’m not fighting to be a blogging sensation. Heck, I’m fighting not to become a big blogger because (I have a little secret, come closer) I’m a little scared of the Internet. Yes, me. I’m afraid of it.

I’m blogging that way one day 85 year old Faith can read and say, “Yeah, that girl lived. I lived and I rocked at it.” And that my blogger friends is enough growth for me.

Do you want more? What are you doing to become a blogging sensation? Or are you like me and just keeping your lives journal?

  1. i think it would be fun to be a blog sensation to be able to write and talk about random things i am passionate about but i am not dying to make it happen. i think it's fun if it happens naturally versus going and seeking it out. i don't share many pics on my blog but it will be fun to read my post of memories when i'm older and my son is older too...like his birth story and milestones

  2. I, like you, don't want to become a blogging sensation! I like the idea of my little space on the Internet be just that, mine! I think there is something very personal about having a small following. You can comment to each and every person that comments on your blog. You seriously have a small group of prayer warriors that are really praying for you. Giveaways, I've never done one and I've never participated in one. There are a pain in the butt from my IPhone. LOL! Honestly, I feel like to be THAT big of a blogger, you have to be willing to put too many of your life accepts out there. Something's should be personal. If you are IGing 30 pictures a day, when are you working, spending time with your husband or kids, engaging in real conversations with your present company. Continue to be a real blogger instead of a "big" blogger!

  3. You're my favorite and I love reading every single thing you write. So you are definitely a blogging sensation :)

I go back and forth. Some days I'm ok with what I'm doing with my blog. And other days I want more and to do more.

  4. Well I think you're sensational! And I honestly wish I had the response like you do with your followers. I, as you know, refuse to do sponsorship as well. But like you, I want to look back and know I tried and did the right thing by my blog.

  5. OMG! I could have written this post! Seriously. I look at those people that are "huge" bloggers and think wow... how'd they get there!?! But like you, I want to enjoy my life and remember it through my blog... and I'm totally scared of the internet too! Oh the dilemma.

  6. I love reading about people's lives so I like to share. I'd also like to read what my life was like way back when.
The minute it starts to get boring or feel like a chore, I'll be shutting down my blog. But for now, it is somewhat entertaining :-).

  7. AMEN!
I've been feeling every single word that you just said. Good for those people that have become sensations overnight, but I'm not one of them and I'm okay with that. Like you said, I have other priorities that come BEFORE blogging.

  8. I just like blogging..lol..I like documenting my own projects and obsessions..and then going back and reading them.

As far as the overnight blog sensations - while it may not always be the case, often times they accumulated their massive following via robot help. It's often the case with Twitter and Instagram.

  9. I definitely want to make sure that my blog remains MY space however writing is my passion and going completely freelance (one day) is my ultimate goal.

Right now my blog is supplementing my full-time salary and it's nice to get those deposits and buy a new outfit here, or a round of drinks there. I try to remain authentic and to remember this is for me or things would just lose their lustre quite quickly :-/

  10. I love this! So perfect! It took me awhile, and several dollars, to realize that I am content with where I am too and no longer want to participate in sponsoring or giveaways or any of that junk. I told Cece I was glad I had her, you, Brittany, and a couple of other girls and that's all I need! : ) In my book, you are a blogging sensation...you have people who come here daily and read what you have to say without having to do any sponsoring or giveaways. After I finish up the things that were paid for months ago, I am done with it!

  11. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here Faith because I feel like it'd sound false if I said that I honestly don't want my blog to get massive or to become a sensation and I guess that's because inside I might like it. I just don't know though. I like just being able to keep a journal of my life without having to impress anybody and of course the small nucleus of loving and helpful readers who have became like a little internet family to me.

  12. I am not a blogger, more a tumblr. I have been reading your blog for years and commented a few times. I love the fact that you have a small following. Your writing is personal and authentic, not commercialized and entirely self-serving. At times, I find similar blogs I enjoy from the people who comment on yours. Many also have a small following.
As others have said, you are a blogging sensation and so are many of bloggers I have found via your site.

  13. You are a blogging sensation in my eyes Faith! Girl, this blogging world can get crazy sometimes. I ready a stat the other day that said there are 100million blogs out there. WTF?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

So yeah. you are a blogging sensation in my world forever and ever.

  14. I'm with ya! I blog for fun. I want to be able to look back and see all the fun I've had, all the milestones my little man has accomplished, all the memories we make are nicely documented. Occasionally I throw a giveaway in there. But, at the end of the day it's to see how much life changes. :)

  15. Faith, I truly admire your attitude towards blogging. That's how it should be...you do it because you love it...and you enjoy connecting with people...and people in turn relate to you. Sometimes people start a blog with the hopes of making a lot of money and becoming an overnight success. But that's when you know that you're kinda in it for the wrong reasons. See....I'm kind of in between and I struggle with everything that you posted. I feel like as a society we're taught to want more, more, more....and whatever you have is never good enough. You can always do better, look better, make more money, be a more successful blogger, etc. Obviously this is a generalization and many people are content with what they have. But ya....unfortunately....I can relate to the little girl....WE WANT MOERE:)))! Thank you so much for the mention, Faith!

  16. I have no desire to be a blogging sensation. I actually just like keeping a record of my life & hopefully my kids will enjoy reading it one day!

  17. That's such a loaded question. Blogging sensation can be defined in SO many different ways. I love blogging & I love working with brands & I love meeting new people. I feel that a blog sensation happens once in a while, so I am just trying to find a little place on the internet that is comfortable for me. If I become a sensation, GREAT, if not, I'll still be here. :)

  18. I love blogging, but lately I haven't had much time to do so. I work two jobs and have a book club and I just don't have the time to devote to becoming a blogging sensation and frankly, I don't want to. I like my little space on the Internet, and I actually have 2 blogs and the other one is anonymous so I can be more honest without the reprecussions of doing so. I want to be able to look back and see I lived...

  19. I left a comment on this yesterday and my stupid phone didn't post it up. SIGH. Anyway, I tend to avoid blogs that have too much product advertising or excessive give-aways, occasional is fine, but if it's every post I just don't care.

It was never my intention to be a "famous" blogger. It was mostly started because I take too many photos and feel the need to share them somewhere.

  20. Hmmmm yeah, you are a total blogging sensation in my world. I love every post you write I swear and I miss you when you take breaks :).

I am like you, I don't care to be a big blogger. I kinda love where I am with a few bloggers I love to read and enjoy. And because I don't have too many, I can actually follow along their lives (score)

  21. While I'll always love seeing new faces and reading comments, I'd never want to be a "famous" blogger. Like you, I'm not into the giveaways and things like that. I have noticed that a lot of the blogs that I follow have jumped on this wagon and their blog has become a bit less personal and more about giveaways and contests, etc. And then I have to unsubscribe. And that kinda makes me sad.

I miss how the old world of blogging used to be. And at this point, I don't see any chance of reversion. It's refreshing to come across lifestyle bloggers.

  22. You know exactly how I feel about this one since I just wrote a post about it! On one hand yes, I'd like to have a greater following to share my writing with but on the other hand I'm not interested in doing all those things that it takes to get there. I think you've done amazing with your blog just being you. It's almost like there are two takes on blogging. The ones who go for blogger sensation and the ones who just want to blog.

  23. I like keeping my life documented. It is fun to network and have feedback, but I mostly enjoy preserving memories for years to come. <3 (But don't get me wrong- I do love comments!!) :)

  24. Ooh, great question!

My answer is a big, fat Yes!
I don't really care to be a "sensation" per se, but I understand that growth (and eventually some level of notability) comes with the blogging territory. It's all pretty necessary if you're in it professionally. Which, I am.
The blog world is HUGE and many of us are in it for different reasons. And, that's okay.
Being able to make a living from my creative efforts and skill is something I'm working toward (with my blog and blog design business) and it's definitely something I want more of.
I do giveaways. I've implemented Google Authorship. I run Adsense ads. I've only had 1 sponsors and 1 direct advertiser thus far.
Like you said, it's hard work. So far, I'm liking it.

    P.S.
I think any Blogger who receives a gang of genuine comments on most of their posts is a "sensation", in another sense of the word. ;)
