Scenes from Thanksgiving Day.

As you can imagine, Thanksgiving this year was bittersweet. I kept looking at the seat my mom use to sit at and I could not believe she was not sitting there. It is still all so surreal to me. In my mind, I kept thinking, how is she not here? It just felt so strange not to have my mom present at the table. Someone important was missing and therefore the day did not feel entirely complete.

I was actually doing a good job of holding myself together by not allowing my emotions to get the best of me. It wasn't until we went around the table to say what we were thankful for and my five year old nephew said that he was thankful for Nana (Nana is what he calls my mom). I began to tear up right then and there.

We, however, did manage to have a really nice Thanksgiving. We were able to laugh and cry and just enjoy being able to spend the entire day together as a family. The food we made was really delicious and I was so happy to be able to go home with leftovers. Sean ate most of it but I did manage to get two plates out of it, ha.

We also did something new this year and picked names for Secret Santa which we are actually calling Secret Gifter. It was a lot of fun and who knows, it might become a new tradition in our family.

I also took my sister's pictures for her Christmas card again this year and what a difference a year makes. The pictures I got were just too much fun and I can't wait to see what my sister chooses to be their Christmas card this year.

- The frosted cups are actually plastic and made my niece and nephew feel fancy, ha.

- They say practice makes perfect. In our cases, not so much. So many shots were taken to get one almost good one.

  4. Holidays will probably always be bittersweet, from now on but keep searching for the sweet and hopefully you will start to feel more of that as time goes on. Glad you were surrounded by family. Firsts are really hard.
