I don't know about all of you but when Christmas rolls around each year, my pockets begin to hurt. I love giving gifts but I dread the amount of money that is spent.
So last year, the day after Christmas, we decided to put $10 away each week for our family's Christmas gifts. It doesn't hurt to put $10 per week away but it sure does hurt spending $500+ at one shot.
Another positive thing about doing this is that we have been able to buy things right along. If we find something we know that one of our family members would love, for a good deal, we have been picking it up!
That has been the most fun. I love the fact that we could be done with Christmas gifts before Christmas even rolls around. This never happens because we
We are going to continue to do this for as long as we are able. Sure makes me look forward to Christmas even more! :)
Such a simple way to save for presents! We should start this...
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! This is our second Christmas together and it seems like our Christmas spending is out of control! We have already bought a jacket for my little brother and we're planning on getting some more items in October and November...It definitely alleviates the pain in the pockets come December!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! The only problem is, I never have cash. LOL. BTW, thanks for dropping by and saying hello although I've been missing for a while :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to plan and buy some of my gifts now as I see them but I am def. going to try putting the $10 away.
That would help alot :)
P.S. Just seeing Christmas in your title made me excited
What a great idea, Faith!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try this starting in January...that will help so much to not feel so overwhelmed in Nov & Dec next year.
Glad you shared!!!
Nice plan Faith :) Funny you mention picking up Xmas gifts, we just completed our Nephews shopping already, and it feels dang good to be ahead of the crowds!
ReplyDeleteGood plan!! It would be so hard for me to not touch it!! lol :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good idea!
ReplyDeleteI actually just bought Landon some stuff for Christmas since it was on sale :) I try to plan ahead for gifts, but it doesn't always work that way
this is a great idea!! this is what i usually do as well. it makes xmas a little more fun if you find gifts before xmas season (and if you put aside money so you dont spend a huge part of your check during xmas time.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea. One that I did for a long time. Unfortunately, Adam robbed it when we bought the house. What? What! So, this year (since there is no Xmas fund AND we are super poor) I will be making most gifts. I have a few fun ideas that I've started on already. Isn't it great to knock these things out early?!
ReplyDeleteTami, it is better to be super poor and in love then super rich and miserable! I wish I were creative enough to make gifts ... seriously.
ReplyDeletethis is great...Dave Ramsey always says christmas comes around the same time each year...and i always mean to start saving in January but just the other day...i was like oops...i better start! great job Faith...it does make you look forward to the shopping and giving part!
ReplyDeleteFaith, you are so good to save a bit each week and yes definitely worth avoiding the crazy lines at all costs! Good luck getting it all done before December!

ReplyDeletehow awesome is this idea! great job Faith!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea.... you are so good. I am such a last minute shopper!
ReplyDeleteChris and I are undoubltedly scramblers. We are combing the malls at the last minute trying to pick up gifts. Luckily its pretty easy to shop for everyone though cause I am a wiz at picking up great gifts.
ReplyDeleteFaith,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea, but would probably hoard the money and not use it for gifts.
I am excited about Christmas. It just hit me the other day and I'm already counting down the days because months no longer exist. We're baking our gifts and I will be making a few for my children. When I was in highschool, a good friend of mine gave me a shoebox of goodies she had baked and to this day I treasure that present. Yummy!
Oh YES! I love Christmas. Not just for the gift giving and receiving (although who can hate that...lol), but it's the one time of year where the family gets together. It's like reunion time! We are all so spread apart it's hard to get all of us together.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of saving $10. Gotta remember that for next year :)
Seriously, such a good idea! We definitely need to do this next year (look at me putting it off another year) because it is overwhelming when it comes time for christmas present buying-time!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great idea!! Thankfully, this year our Christmas shopping for the fam is already done...whew. They are all getting photos of our little guy. :) Hope they like it! It sure was easy on us!!
ReplyDeleteHey Faith I sent you an email about being a guest blogger for me in December. Did you get it? I sent it through the email for your blog. Let me know!!!
ReplyDeleteI put money up all year long. It is great to spend cash and not put things one credit cards during the holidays.
ReplyDeleteYou are so smart! I do this sporadically but I like how you put a set amount of money aside. I need to take a page from you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart idea! Wish we would have done that! haha... I'm banking on black friday to get what we need! eek... so stressful! I love Christmas... it's definitely my favorite time of year. Getting a bit nervous on the cost this year since we have a lot more nieces and nephews!
ReplyDeleteawesome idea!! that will save a lot of money and time stress :)
