Do I Really Need To Share?

So I’m sure this is a thing in most marriages. The whole sharing bit. Don’t mistake this for thinking that I don’t care to share, trust me I know all about it. I have 3 sisters. I learned to share even if I didn’t want to because then it was just stolen. You might as well hand it over instead of have it stolen.

But man, Sean makes me want to hide things. And well, sometimes I do.

I use to be that wife who would buy things that I loved, put it in the fridge and not think twice about it. You know, your favorite ice cream, your leftover Chinese food, your favorite red wine.

I was so naïve.

Not anymore.

I'm not proud to say this but I kinda hide my favorite foods now.

I hid ice cream in the fridge for 3 weeks and Sean had no idea about it. I’m serious. I completely hid it. Behind all the frozen chicken and broccoli. If I hadn’t Sean would have taken it upon himself to eat it all before I got around to eating finishing it. He says, I take too long so it’s not his fault that he eats it all. Um, what about self-control, darling?

So Tuesday night, I kinda forgot that I was hiding it and left it out in front. Of course, Sean sees it that night and says, “Wait? We have ice cream.” And I’m all like, “Oh yeah, right, I do. Not we.” He opens the container and sees that I’ve had some and he goes, “Have you been hiding this?” And I’m all, “Yah, you give me no choice.” And he goes, “Well that’s the last time you’ll hide anything, because now I’m going to be searching for all these goodies you’re hiding from me.” I would have laughed but then he said, “Too bad you can’t hide ice cream in the bedroom.”

He doesn’t know it but I’m thinking about investing in a college dorm sized fridge that way I could possibly hide ice cream in the bedroom.

  2. I thought I was the only one that did this! Since being pregnant I crave grapes like CRAZY. but if I leave them out, a whole bag is gone in like, a day. So I hide them behind everything in the fridge. LMAO. Hiding food is totally innocent. I hide purchases from my husband, just because I don't like being asked 20 questions about what I bought and why. =/ he'll get over it lol

  3. haha so funny!

I totally do this, but only because I like to have a stash of chocolate in case of an emergency. A girls gotta have her dessert! ;)

  7. HA HA HA HA!!! OMG :)

I have to do this too!!!! We have a three day rule (which I've turned into a week on certain items) with left overs!!! I save certain leftovers for when Matt is working late. So I don't have to cook for one. Then I come home and it's no longer there. Darn him!

A mini fridge doesn't sound like a bad idea!!!! ;) HA HA HA!

I could hide mine in my closet (notice, MY) since his closet is in another room since I have too many clothes :D

  8. Haha! So true!! Just the other day I got upset with my husband for eating MY pringles! I bought him his favorite chips so he wouldn't eat mine, yet I still caught him with his hand in my pringle can. I see hiding food will probably be my next step too!

  9. Too funny! Sadly, I kinda think I'm the one who eats things up! Not that Mj doesn't but there has been more then a few times where I was like, oops...I ate it all.

  10. This made me laugh a lot Faith, I can completely understand your motivations for hiding the ice cream although I guess you were unlucky with it being found this time, great post Faith!

  11. bahaha! Matt and I hide stuff from each other ALL the time. Totally normal. I have chocolate stashes all over the house...he sometimes finds them and usually eats it all until he gets sick. (My stashes are large enough to fulfill a night of trick-or-treaters lol) Do what you gotta do!!!

  12. OMG I have a post in my drafts about this. I CANNOT HAVE ANYTHING for myself. And I grew up an only child til I was 14 so....
    Anyway.
No matter what I make or buy and put in the fridge or pantry, John finds it. I hide things in plastic bags in places I know he'll never look...like behind the dish towels in the drawer, or behind the laundry basket. :)
The only thing he wont steal is anything I've made that has tuna in it.

  13. I love this - you are hiding it from him so he doesn't eat it - my hubby hides stuff so I don't know he's eating it - not fearing that I will! I've busted him with so many candybars it ain't even funny.

    A mini-fridge disguised as a jewelry box....

  14. Ha! I know how you feel. My DH eats faster than me. So, sharing food is hard. If I want my fair share of popcorn when we watch a movie, I have to make separate bowls.

  16. I call josh the cookie closet eater because he hides the in the pantry & will eat them with the door almost shut. But I tell him to hide them so I won't eat them! Ha!

  17. Haha in this house if there are homemade cookies or the Girl Scout Tagalong cookies and Jeff doesn't hide them from me he doesn't get any lol.

  18. LMAO...That is my husband! He says I take too long to eat it.
So now I threaten him. My famous words are "eat it and weep!"...he asked me what that meant once and I said "well, you know how sometimes someone in an office puts laxative in their food to catch the food thief? Well, that's how it is in this case." It scared my husband enough but clearly not enough cause now what he does is that he waits until he sees me eating some of my treat and makes googly eyes at me. I am a sucker for that so I always end up sharing anyways :-(.

I have no words..I wish i could insert some wise advice from 24 years of marriage, but I have no words!!!

  21. This is hilarious! We are the exact same way. Remember how Derek ate the whole thing of gelato? Well that's why he does with snacks so if I want something to last a week or so then I have to hide it!

  22. haha! I know exactly how you feel! I've lost many a leftover meal to the husband. Also cookies. If I buy cookies and I actually want to taste one, I have to have it immediately upon bringing it home. Otherwise, I don't get any.

  23. hahaha so funny! I have two sisters, so I know all about sharing too!

  24. hiding icecream in a separate fridge is probably the most genius idea i've heard in awhile.

    just saying :)

  26. Hilarious...LMAO!! .as the only woman in a house full of men (hubby and sons), I hide things all of the time. Oh, I'm shameless. I learned my lesson in college when my roomies finished my cereal within minutes of bringing it home.

  27. Hahaha! Too cute! Yes, this definitely happens in my marriage, but I'm usually hiding new shoes! Haha! Not that I'm worried about him wearing them, of course (that would be terrible! Ha!), but I always feel that I've done something wrong when I go on a spur of the moment mini shopping spree!!

  28. I'm sorry but you gotta do what you gotta do...I mean...if a wife needs to store her junk food at her parents' house, then there should be no judgment!! #truestory

  29. Food is important. If you have to hide it in order to be able to finish it off on your own time, then do what you gotta do Faith! Hahaha oh this is funny. There's almost nothing worse then getting all psyched up for something only to find out your husband freaking ate it!

  30. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would totally do the same thing!!!!

  31. Ha Ha- I love this! I don't hide things from the Husband but I do hide things from the kids. When I was pregnant with Axle, I craved Reesee Cups all the time. I would hide them everywhere. My husband thought it was hilarious but I explained to him it was in the best interest of the children because without my chocolate, they weren't going to like me one bit!

  32. there is nothing like day dreaming about eating your favorite dish all day and coming home to an empty container. This happens to me all of the time and it makes me so freakin' mad. I go to bed early and my boyfriend stays up super late...usually, I wake up to a trash can full of empty wrappers. I've learned not to get attached to anything here.

  33. omg i am late.. i do it, i didnt know it was a men thing i thought it was only my hubby.. so you are not alone, i hide my chocolate chip cookies in my wardrobe in between my clothes where i keep my panties..... otherwise when i need my comfort food its not there and we can't have that ...

  34. ok, I have to hid food ALL THE TIME. peanut butter is like #1. Chris can eat an entire jar in a day, and often does (isn't that disgusting?!). So I hid it from him. He's going to be gone for the next 14 weeks and really the only good part is that I don't have to hide from anymore!

  35. I think our husbands may be brothers... seriously he gives me the take too long to eat it line (verbatim) word for word!! I thought about the mini fridge thing too!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Haha, I've thought about doing that to B but he's tall and will find all the stuff I hide up high. I might have to try that tampon box. lol

  37. HAHAHAHA! I did the same thing the other day with queso!!
This was hilarious! It's hard to share sometimes.
