A Saturday at the Racetrack

If you’ve been a reader of this blog for a long time then you are aware that Sean use to play rugby when we lived in Upstate New York. He was on the Saratoga Springs rugby team and I use to write about that often as it would consume most of our weekends. He hasn’t played rugby in a few years although he did try when we moved to PA … it was just that his work schedule did not allow for him to make practices, etc. Regardless of the years that has passed he has continued to keep in touch with his old teammates as many of them became great friends and several of them (three in the picture way below) were his groomsmen.

One of his groomsmen moved to South Carolina last year so when he advised that he’d be back in Saratoga for the weekend Sean decided that we should make the four hour drive (one way) and catch up. I'm not really a fan of horse racing and in fact I think it is morally wrong to work horses this way but I digress and will get off of my high horse (pun intended).

We could not spend the night as Sean had an early appointment the following day so we boarded our dogs with their vet and hung out for several hours and then took the drive back home. It was a long day but worth it to catch up with friends that we had not seen in a while. I also got to meet some kiddos which was pretty neat as up to that point some of them I had only seen in pictures.

We had a great time catching up, bet on a few horses (we have no idea how it works and ended up just choosing a horse based on their number) and watched a few of the races. One of our goals this year was to make more time for family and friends and I think we have definitely done that! I hope you're all having a wonderful week and that you have great weekends! ♥

  1. I'm not sure how I feel about horse races either...but we're going tomorrow. We live pretty close to a race track, but never go. I think it's awesome that you made that drive round trip in one day to see his friend. That must have been a looooong day, but surely worth it.

    1. I think that they're beautiful. Just that people make so much money off of them being worked so hard. I maybe am thinking too much about it but so many of them die yearly and many times because of the heat, etc. But I love seeing them run ... they are beautiful animals and are so graceful! I just wish they were more free if that makes any sense. If you can run like that you should be free ...

  2. I've only been to a horse track once in the Meadowlands. I'm not sure how I feel about it either, but they are such beautiful creatures and it is amazing to see them run around the track. It looks like you ended up having a beautiful day and that yellow dress is so perfect on you! Sierra Beautifully Candid

    1. Thank you so much! I love wearing bright colors, especially in the summer! Well, it's August ... so I have that dread feeling in my stomach right now. But overall, I can't/won't complain. How are you?!

  4. My daddy used to love going to the horse races when he was able to. I want to go one day just because I'd like to see if I get the same thrill out of it he used to all those years...

    1. You will def. get a thrill. It is exciting to watch the horses in action. They are surely beautiful, strong and graceful. It is hard not to stare in awe at just how majestic they are especially when they are running free.

  5. pretty dress. I have not been to the race track in years. I need to add it back to my agenda. Maybe a date with the hubby.

  6. First of all these pictures are great! I almost feel like I'm there. I also love that dress on you. I couldn't pull of yellow or orange if I tried!

I love that you and Sean have been able to keep in touch with all your New York friends the past few years since you moved. If you two ever had the opportunity to move back, would you?

    1. Thank you so much! Haha, my sister always says that ... that when she looks at my post/pictures she feels like she's there. I think it's because I post too many pictures, hahaha! I think that there are so many shades of yellow and orange so I don't think it's true that you couldn't pull it off.

Me too! To be honest, I don't think so. Our lives are so different than our friends (no kids) in NY so I don't know how much I'd enjoy going back. I like the lives that we've created in PA and right now don't want to leave :)
