I Tortured Myself For The Greater Good

The hubs loves metal. Why? I have no idea. It's very creepy. He blames it on being some of the bands/music he grew up to. Fine, I get it ... but it shouldn't have anything to do with me, ever.

Well, for an early birthday gift he asked for tickets to a Korn concert. And then he asked that I go with him. I didn't realize how crazy a request this was because I had no issue purchasing the ticket online. It wasn't until he told me last Saturday that he couldn't wait for Sunday that the dread starting setting in.

But it was a birthday gift so I had to suck it up, put my feelings aside and smile.

It didn't help that when we got to the concert the line was crazy long. Hello? Do you realize that it is -9 degrees out here?! Are you guys insane? It is brick city! It made matters worst when I realized that there were separate lines for men and women. Why did the men's line move so much quicker? Sean was already inside for ten minutes before I made it inside.

As soon as I walked in, I freaked. It was SO loud. Some crazy woman from the band called "In This Moment" was singing screaming. They call this music? What the hell?! I was pissed not happy.

Lucky for me, a woman who worked there felt my pain and gave me ear plugs. I almost felt like the biggest dork. These fans were so happy for this loud music and here I was with ear plugs. Oh well. I didn't have a headache the next day. Sean sure did, ha!

I politely {meaning I stood with my hands crossed and glared} listened to "In This Moment, "Sevendust", "Disturbed" and "Korn". I wanted to rip my ears out but they are still intact.

I even had to stand near the mosh pit because I actually paid more to stand instead of sit. How dumb.

When the concert was over and we were in our car, I said to Sean, "I don't care what day it is. Your birthday, your graduation, a promotion, whatever. I will never attend one of these concerts with you. Find a friend who likes this music because I will never do this with you ever again."

{you notice all the never & ever's. i was getting my point across}

And you know what he said, "Thanks so much for coming with me."

I'm still not going ever again. I would rather go to a Spice Girl concert before I do that again.

No pictures because I would rather forget.

  1. You're are such a good wife. I'm glad you went and experienced it, so you have an excuse for why you won't be going back. Your husband is such a sweet heart for thanking you.

  2. lool, I can just imagine the torture. I love grunge music and if Nirvana was still around as a band I'll be there in a heartbeat. However, I can NEVER enjoy metal music and I like some of the bands from a political or activism stand, but their music is un-tolerable for me. So, I can sympathize with your horrible experience.

ps. since you and hubby were separated, did you at lease stand together?

  8. Sweet of you to go but it's true. That music is brutal if you don't like and it's a waste of money!! At least he knows you would even if you would never do it again!!

  9. Lol! This is so hilarious! My husband's cousin is the drummer in a heavy metal band and I went to one of his concerts back in December. I feel your pain! It wasn't completely horrible but we too were close to the mosh pit. These people were crazy and I continually said to him "I better not get hit!". The worse part about it was that the entire time my husband was trying to build up enough courage to go into the pit himself. I was praying on the inside "please don't do it! please don't do it!" He decided to go in and just as he was about to completely embarrass and injure himself in that sea of stupidity, the final song ended! THANK GOD!

Love your blog by the way! :)

  10. ahahaha!! I can't imagine going to something like this. Maybe ONE of those bands at a time but ALL of them?! that would definitely be a little much for me.
My sister's fiance likes that kind of music A LOT and she attempts some of those concerts.
You ladies are better than me haah -- I dont know that I would have gone!
Glad your ears on in tact!

  12. And that, is what it's all about folks. Good girl.

Though perhaps you can use this as a little leverage to go shopping for some Valentine decor? ;)

  13. You're a good wife! I don't think I could have done it. I'm thankful my husband hates metal and will go to a million Elton John concerts with me! We're going to my 4th and his 3rd EJ concert in March lol and he actually enjoys it!

  14. That is hilarious!! Awww poor you. That doesn't seem like anything I could enjoy at all!! But I would go to a Spice Girls concert (only if it were 1998 again). You're such a good wifey.

  18. Hahaha! Way to be an awesome wife, Faith! It could be worse! It could have been country! haha
I jest. My hubs likes some metal and country, but he also loves several other things too, and has always supported my love of opera. So I've learned to tolerate the country a little. Thank God he hardly ever plays it. I admit I like a couple of those metal bands too, lol.

  19. Faith,

As usual, you made me laugh. Wow! You really love your man. Korn is brutal. Spice Girls...I am not a hater, but I was never a fan. I don't know if I could manage through a Spice Girl concert.

  20. I am sure he would do the same for you- shoot he'd better!! hehe! Sorry you had to go through that, at least it was for a good cause? You're such a sweet couple. I am all for sacrifices and you made a great one for your marriage :)

  21. It's cool that you took one for the team. Emphasis on "one" lol. Separate lines for men & women? WTH is that?!

  22. This made me laugh Faith!!!! You are a much better wife than I. Honestly, I love ALL music. EXCEPT that kind. I cannot find one thing to love about it. It's angry, it's screamy, it lacks melody or rhythm or beat. BLAH!!! Lesson learned, huh? Hehe. Good for you for going though. Sean really owes you big time!!!

  23. UM this is what I have to listen to EVERYDAY at work! I want to blow my brains out, probably because the music tells me to! And it is sooo loud, negative, depressing, and the high pitched screams are beyond annoying. I can not understand why anyone would like that. Doesn't it hurt their ears?! What sounds good about it?! It is the kind of music to put me in a bad mood. I'm open to music but NOT that! Sorry, just had to vent too lol :)
