Seattle: Red Lion Hotel

While everyone on Instagram complained about massive amounts of snowfall in my area I enjoyed Seattle weather. I just won't talk about how long it took me to shovel my car out when I got back. One could say it was cold but when I left 20 degree weather in PA in exchange of Seattle's 50 degree weather, well, I say it was a heatwave! It rained on and off for our first two days in Seattle but for our remaining 4 days, the sun shone bright and I loved Seattle more because of it.

Seattle was never on my list of places to visit but now I want to tell everyone to go! Granted, I did not have a rental car but I found that it was easy to keep myself busy within a reasonable proximity of our hotel without getting lost.

I headed to Seattle because Sean had a week of training in Amazon's headquarters and since I obviously have the time, Sean booked me a ticket that way I could visit a new place. He warned me that during the day I would be by my lonesome but that did not deter me since moving to PA I've basically spent most of my days with the fur-babies.

I also knew that it meant that I could explore Seattle on my own time and take as many pictures as my heart desired because we all know Sean makes faces when "I just had to stop and take a shot". And that's exactly what I did. I hung out and ate at restaurants during the day by myself. And stopped to take a picture whenever I wanted. That equals perfect to me. In the evenings we would go out, sometimes just us, sometimes with his coworkers.

Since I took so many pictures (I won't tell you how many because I fear that you will find me rather obnoxious) and really want to share Seattle with all of you I'll start with the boring stuff. You know, where we stayed.

We stayed at the Red Lion Hotel. I loved that everything that we wanted to do was within walking distance or you could take a short & inexpensive monorail ride to the location. The staff was great, the rooms clean and the bed was so comfortable. It felt strange to go home and sleep in our queen bed after a week of sleeping in a king. We completely need a king bed. I'm sure it will make our sleep marriage much better. They also have free WiFi which is so important when you have an obsession with Instagram. That's basically all of us, right?

{I'm just seeing that I forgot to take pictures of the bathroom}

Also the waterfront view from our room was amazing. It was awesome to look out the window and see the white birds circling the water, the sun peeking out and the boats and ferries on the water. We were able to see Pike's Place Market through our window which was neat.

As for Sean the only thing that meant anything to him was the Keurig in the room that allowed him to have delicious coffee every morning before work. I know the next gift I have to get him, just a little less dusty on top. I wonder if he noticed that.

One thing that was not pleasant was the room temperature. We could not control the thermostat and when the staff would adjust it, it was either too hot or too cold. Besides that detail I had a great experience and would recommend if you are ever visiting Seattle. They are also completing renovations right now so that just means it is going to be better, right?

The hotel has a restaurant on the 5th floor called Frolic that we had drinks at (their chocolate espresso martini is delicious and a bit strong!) but to be honest the menu is rather pricey and limited so I would recommend venturing out for food since there are so many other great restaurants within walking distance.

Attached to the restaurant is a cute outdoor setup that I'm sure is perfect during the warmer, non-rainy months. You get great views of buildings in Seattle which I really loved. Since it felt like a heatwave to me I spent an hour each day reading Divergent here.

They also have a great gym which I used daily. Yeah, I know. I'm surprised too. But when your vacation time is your own time it's amazing the things you choose to do.

I hope that this is helpful to anyone who decides to vacation in Seattle one day.

  3. You be as obnoxious as you want. I want to see ALL the photos (i'm not kidding). We used to have a Red Lion hotel here, and then they switched it to Double Tree (WHY AM I TELLING YOU THIS)

    Anyway, what a good man you have to book you a ticket, just so you can explore and hang out. This hotel looks hip and trendy. The view from your room is simply amazing. I probably would have had 100 shots of that alone. Can't wait to see more!

  20. Love the view from your room. I went to Seattle a while ago for my job. I liked quite a few things about it, but unlike you my visit was from Sun - Thurs and it rained off and on every day we were there. I understood why folks said take an umbrella. Love the pictures!
