My Mom Would Not Be Proud.

I hate to tell you this but my husband likes microwave meals. You know those nasty meals that are pre-cooked and all you have to do is heat it up in the microwave. Not even the "healthy" ones like "Lean Cuisine" or "Healthy Choice" but "Banquet"!

This is his favorite one:

So gross. They are like $1 and I think know they have something to do with his bachelor days. He use to think that Hamburger Helper meals were fancy but I won't even get into that.

Anyway, he really likes them. When we got married his co-workers said, "You are married now; why in the world are you still bringing that crap to work?" Yes, very embarrassing. They probably think I am this horrible wife who doesn't cook and lets him eat that crap.

Everytime we go shopping I tell him not to put that crap in the cart. But somehow, someway, they end up in our darn cart! I am a great cook. At least I tell myself that so I know that is not the reason why he buys it.

Well, he started buying these Stouffers in the frozen section. He figured I won't complain so much about this "food" because you are kinda doing the whole cooking process. You know, heating the stove and using a skillet.

I still wasn't impressed until one day, he begged forced me to take a bite. I actually liked it. I was soooo upset. I like it so much that sometimes I crave it. Like right now when Sean is at rugby practice and I have no excuse to crave it. But I craved it so I "cooked" it.

Here is a picture of the culprit:

During the "cooking" process...

11 minutes later. Yum!

Oh well, I still will never understand his love for microwaved meals but you better believe that I won't be trying them any time soon. Just in case.

  3. I think that is the exact one I used to eat years ago! The only thing is the salt but if you eat a reasonable portion size it's not bad. You can't beat the quick prep time. We just ate one of these for dinner last week. It's kinda good to have in a pinch when time is limited. Oh, and really $1 for lunch is as cheap as it gets!!

  4. oh my gosh, my husband & I love the skillet dinners! He's a way better cook than I am so now he likes to "encourage" me to make my "famous" stir-fry...lol. You should try the Thai ones- there are some where they give you suggestions on how to vary the flavor- like we added peanut butter to one once and the hubs still talks about how it was like "restaurant food". :) (plus you feel like you're actually cooking a little more if you vary it...even if the suggestion was on the bag).

  6. I'm not a fan of microwave dinners and thankfully neither is the husband haha. I'm not a fan of the skillet dinners because there are a lot of vegetables and vegetables flavors in them and that just isn't ok with me haha

  7. There is definitely a connection between men and the microwave. Our new apartment doesn't have one...and I'm just a liitle glad :)

  8. I love how many times you referred to it as "crap" and put "cooking" in quotations. You crack me up. But don't feel bad hun, Hub's favorite all time food is Totinos Frozen Pizza- which makes those "chicken fingers" look healthy. Eventually- we'll break 'em :)

  9. Lol....our boys are quite similar, Big Man leaned over while I was reading this and said "Which Stouffer's is that??!....that looks good esp. with the little corn on the side"

He loves some microwave meals himself, esp. those skillet ones.

But the Banquet has to come to an end lol! Matt is guilty of those mini pizzas and anything cheesy really. :)

  11. Like redwhitebride-I love cheese puffs too. LOL at your third paragraph about his coworkers. Guys will be guys--ok that's too general but my hubby will also eat the crappiest foods too (if I let him). LOL. I must admit though that the brownie on the banquet bag looks good. Don't mind me--I'm hungry. :)

  12. LOL! When hubby and i first got married, Hamburger helper was a fancy meal too lol. After that, hubby called himself "cooking for real" whenever he whipped out his George Foreman grill. I threw that away just this year, but hadnt touched it in over a year. I do most of the cooking now (really ALL of the cooking), but thas because ive become much more stringent on what we buy and cook now. I still have my processed foods favs but eventually, his palette will change with the things you create.

  13. Ahahahaha! You know they put chemicals in that kind of food that cause your taste buds to dilate so that you can taste everything stronger and other chemicals that cause cravings? Yeah. I know that, but does it stop me from buying junk? Nooooooooooo! Funny post. Thanks for the laugh!
