"Back in the Day" Tuesdays

I will never forget the day I went to school in my fabulous, new, bright blue shirt. We had just gone shopping and I was so excited to wear my new shirt to school. I remember taking care to look my best. I was in 7th grade so I was in the stage of trying to impress my peers.

I remember going to Spanish class and my teacher pulling me to the side. She spoke to me in a very, very stern voice. "Never wear that shirt to school again!"

I remember being shocked and scared. Who in the world was she to tell me what I could or could not wear? But based on her face, I did not want to test her. I made sure that I never wore that shirt when I had her class. I wore it everywhere else. Everywhere including church.

It was my freshman year in college that I realized why my teacher had her crazy moment.

This was almost the exact picture in front of my shirt:

Can you imagine what people thought when they saw my mother walking me, her 12 year old daughter (wearing that shirt) to school in the morning?

My mom and dad never knew. They still do not know. I do not think a lot of people knew. To me and a lot of people it was just a picture of a pretty, pointy, green plant on a bright blue shirt.

Embarrassing and 100% a true story!

**(Picture found via google images. And yes, I googled "picture of marijuana leaves" that way I could find one that looked exactly like the one on my shirt)**

When I got my first apartment, I bought the most beautiful poster and hung it with pride. My parents came over to visit and both liked my very colorful poster. Later, my brother pulled me over to the side, and informed me that the plant in my poster was of the same variety of yours. I was sooo embarrassed. However, it was such a pretty poster, that I kept it up on my wall.

Hahaha!

So when I saw the photo and 'Back in the Day' on my Dashboard, I thought you were going to blog about toking up back in the day! Though that blog post would be interesting, I am glad it wasn't!

What a sweet story. How innocent were you!!! I didn't know anything about marijuana until High School. All the cool kids did it which means I stayed far away from it. hehe.

Ok so I would have been the same way -- I didn't know what those looked like until I was in college. Yes I am still that naive lol! cute story!

Wow. Not even your parents knew? That is the craziest part of the story to me.

@K. Rock: My parents are from Ghana so a lot of things they really were not aware of with American culture. Sometimes it was a blessing and sometimes a curse. Either way, it makes for a lot of funny stories growing up! :)

Too funny. I can imagine your teacher giving you a little sniff just to make sure you weren't selling that stuff from your gym locker. :D lol

My mom found my uncle's plant in his basement and put it in his front window saying "doesn't he know plants need light?" He flipped when he came home and saw it.
