I don't think it takes much to make me happy. I know it is a cliché thing to say but for me it's true.
I've noticed that I get excited over the little things, the simple things. Being with my family, watching Sean enjoy one of my home cooked meals, spending quality time with friends. So when Sean told me that he had found a spot in PA that he thought I would like, that had a body of water, that we could do a picnic at, you would have thought he told me that he had won one million dollars.
You see, when we were living in Upstate NY there were so many lakes and we were able to eat at restaurants on the water or simply pack for a picnic. I took it for granted. It's not that easy to find in PA and they do not lie when they describe PA as rolling hills of luscious green. I still am in awe of all the green but there's something about being near water that gives me a sense of calm.
I call it my happy place.
I truly can sit and stare at the boats residing in the water for hours and just be.
Or just lay down on a blanket, close my eyes and feel like time has stopped.
This particular day, I packed us a cooler bag of sandwiches, drinks, chips, pasta salad, almonds, cheese and crackers.
Then we drove 40 minutes to the park.
We quickly found a spot on the grass to eat some of the food I had packed and soon moved over to the sand.
We pulled out our chairs and laid out our blanket.
When we had eaten enough, we walked over to the water. It was rather cold so I only allowed up to my ankles to sink into the water but Sean being braver than I am dunked his entire body in.
We walked the small beach, hand in hand, and welcomed the sand between our toes. We talked about our families, we talked about life, we talked about the future. We talked about what we want to accomplish this year, together and apart. And when we had walked the entire beach we went back to our blanket, laid down and talked some more.
When I say it does not take much to make me happy, I mean it.
This day all I needed was the water, sand between my toes and Sean.
And I know this is completely cheesy but when a rain cloud passed over us and water sprinkled down on our bodies I seriously thought, this could only mean showers of blessings.

ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect day! It really is the little things. I love the water and picnics too. Glad you now have a little go to lake getaway spot. Love your beach bag. It's so cute.
ReplyDeleteThe little things are often the nicest. I don't get why some people don't understand that. Sigh. I digress.
ReplyDeleteCute cover up btw!

Where in PA was this? I too love being by the water, but I live in Philly and the Schuylkill River is not really something I want to dip my feet in. Luckily, we aren't too far away from the Jersey shore, or even to Delaware or Maryland's shores. If you live a little more north, the Point Pleasant beach is also pretty nice.
ReplyDeleteMy kind of day!
