A December weekend with Colleen
It has become a bit of a tradition for me to visit Colleen during the holidays. I told myself that as long as it is not snowing the day of travel I’ll make the 3 ½ hour drive to see Colleen and her family. I did listen to Sia the entire road trip and it completely made the trip seem a lot faster.
Now that Colleen has two kiddos I really want to make an effort to see them as much as I can. The distance of course makes it harder but I’ll keep working on this because if I’m being selfish, I really want them to know me. I’ll also admit that I love that Joey who is three years old says that Auntie Faith is mama’s best friend.
I took the day off on Friday that way we could get as much of the weekend together. We did not have any plans on Friday besides vegging out, talking and watching movies. Although Friday night I did take Joey to Target that way he could pick out his Christmas gift. I did get him some clothes for Christmas but let’s be real, he wants toys. He chose some paw patrol gifts and was so excited to pick out a toy. Colleen advised that she does not take him shopping with her so this was a real treat for him to go to the toy section and pick out something. I think I’ll always do it this way with him because I also get some bonding time.
Saturday we woke up slowly and had plans to do a paint and sip at Canvas Corks & Forks. We did a paint and sip in 2017 and really had such a good time. Although the company was nice (Colleen & Nicole) Colleen and I agreed that the overall experience wasn’t that great. The instructor just moved so quickly and didn’t really explain what we should be doing. There was a mac and cheese bar which did make it better. We will definitely go back to Saratoga Paint and Sip as we had a much better experience and our paintings actually came out decent due to proper guidance.
When we got back to Colleen's house we talked until it was time to go to bed.
When I drove back home to PA I felt so refreshed and happy. Any time spent with Colleen and company is time well spent. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you're off to a great start to 2019!

ReplyDelete<3 <3 <3 Beautiful photos per usual Faith, and this post makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteI think sometimes a long road trip by yourself would be relaxing. Of course I'm rarely ever in the car by myself the last 8 years, minus the 15 minute drive to work on Wednesdays.
Aw it's sweet he calls you Auntie Faith. My best friends kids call me "Auntie Em" like they say on Wizard of Oz (thanks to my best friends mother LMBO). Dominic calls her "Ms Christina" LOL I have no idea why- just does. But yes, it's a sweet privilege to be close to your best friends children. & I KNOW Colleen loves seeing you more than not.
That's sweet that you took him to Target and let him pick out a toy <3. I will give Colleen props on not taking the kids with her shopping. The toy department can be a nightmare LOL. I never really had the choice, and I think Dominic left with a Hot Wheel car every time we left any store- just so he would behave (we stopped about 4-5 years old LOL).
We have those sip and paint things here in Omaha, but I've yet to ever go to one. They've been here for YEARS now. Maybe this spring or summer. I'm glad you two had fun, despite the instructor going too quick.
You know what? I agree. Road trips by myself are very relaxing.
DeleteI think it's so sweet he calls me that too. His mom has called me Auntie Faith since he was a baby so that's what he calls me :).
She said it is the worst taking him shopping with her, lol ... so the excitement he had running around to pick up a toy was pretty cute, for me, hahaha.
Yes, def. do it! It's really a lot of fun. I have one literally walking distance from my house and I have to check it out. Either with Sean or the girls.
I love how you make an effort to stay in touch with her and for her kids to know you. It sounds like whenever you're together you have such a great time so I'm sure the drive makes up for it in a way.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We made that promise to each other when I moved from New York. And now it means more to me now that she has kiddos. Yes, the time together was def. worth the long drive :)
DeleteIt's such a great thing to be able to live so far from friends yet pick up where you leave off when you see them!
ReplyDeleteA mac n cheese bar at the paint and sip place? None of ours serve their own beer/wine or food. You have to BYOB so you're lucky!
I completely agree!
DeleteIn PA we have a lot of places that just do BYOB as well. It's def. a NY thing ... they get all the perks, haha.
