Every now and then, you make a friend who becomes a forever friend. Not a season friend. You know the kind of friend that you only need during a certain stage in your life. The friend Colleen became is the type of friend that you need in every stage of your life.
Colleen is that friend that when to others the conversation sounds ridiculous, to us it is common knowledge. Why don't they get it? They should.
We laugh out loud at the same exact thing. Even if it isn't funny, it is.
We have stories from years ago that just make us laugh out loud because seriously did that really happen. And we could really blackmail each other with the information but we take our secrets very seriously.
We have nothing to hide because we trust each other that much.
We just get each other.
We met in college. We had the same class. But we actually did not bond until our class had a trip to Aruba. In Aruba, we became friends. Not sure why but it happened. Then after Aruba we went on with our lives. We'll see each other in our classes and wave and say our hellos. I would also see Colleen in a bar getting kicked out because she was underage and taking sips of things she shouldn't have and every time I would laugh because she was just ridiculous.
After college we moved to the same area and became inseparable. Every weekend we spent together. Actually when I first starting dating Sean we said he was dating the both of us because well he was. She was always with us.
She was also the one to convince me to start dating Sean when I was unsure. You know how she convinced me? She told me he had long eyelashes. Win. Haha.
Things have changed a bit. She isn't with me all the time. Sean has become my inseparable partner in crime but the love has not gone away.
It is a blessing to have someone in my life like Colleen. Someone who I know will be around for many years to come. Someone's whose children will have no choice but to be each other's best friends.
And well, if she ever decides to not be my friend, I have a lot of stories.
Blackmail at its finest.

ReplyDeleteI have an all-seasons friend too - we've been friends since we were fifteen! Actually for her 30th birthday last year, I gave her a charm for her birthday that was a symbol of the four seasons to represent all of the seasons of life that we have been through and will go through together!
